About

Active Dutch is a small, commercial Dutch language school for English-speaking expats and international students, based in Alphen aan den Rijn. All classes are taught by one certified teacher of Dutch as a second language (NT2). It runs beginner courses for small groups at levels A1 to A2, in person in Alphen aan den Rijn or live online, and private lessons in person or online from beginner level up to B1. Learners at A2 level and above can join an online conversation club to keep practising. Employers can book in-company courses for international staff, at their office or online, and the school also sells e-books for learners. English is used alongside Dutch in class.

What they offer

Good to know

  • A commercial school. All courses are paid, and prices and start dates change, so check the website.
  • The courses are not exam training for the civic integration exam or the state exam, and the certificate is one of attendance, not official proof of your language level.
  • In-person group classes take place only in Alphen aan den Rijn. Online classes need a laptop or desktop computer; a phone is not enough.
  • It teaches from beginner level up to B1.
