About
The Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health is an inter-institutional school for public health in the north of the Netherlands. It is part of the University of Groningen and the University Medical Center Groningen, and it runs research networks together with Hanze University of Applied Sciences and NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences. It is named after the first woman to graduate in medicine at the University of Groningen and the first female doctor in the Netherlands. Its stated purpose is to act as a connector, bringing researchers, teachers, residents, health professionals and policymakers together to share knowledge and collaborate. Its work is grouped under five themes: future-proof health systems, technology for public health, planetary health, a healthy living environment, and health as lived experience. It supports research, challenge-based teaching such as minors and summer schools, innovation projects, and public engagement through exhibitions, festivals and a podcast. Its office is at the House of Connections on the Grote Markt in Groningen. It is a publicly funded academic body rather than a company or a service provider for individuals.
