Organisation records are published from the Flux Forward organisation register and shown here exactly as that register holds them. We do not research, write or edit them on this site, and a listing is not an endorsement or a sign that an organisation can help with your situation. Check the organisation's own website before acting.

More about where our information comes from

If you are moving to or leaving the Netherlands, its immigration and emigration checklists explain what changes for your tax, and the year you arrive or leave has its own return. If you were recruited from abroad, ask your employer early whether the Expat Scheme applies. Questions about rent, healthcare or childcare allowances go to Dienst Toeslagen instead.

About

The Belastingdienst, which calls itself the Tax Administration of the Netherlands in English, is a directorate-general of the Ministry of Finance. Its stated core tasks are levying, checking and collecting national taxes and social insurance contributions, and detecting and fighting tax and financial fraud, and the FIOD is part of it. In January 2020 the cabinet decided to separate allowances and customs from the rest of the organisation: Customs has been its own directorate-general since 2021, and allowances are handled by Dienst Toeslagen. Its English site focuses on people living or working outside the Netherlands and on businesses not established there. It includes checklists for moving to and leaving the Netherlands, guidance on filing an income tax return for the year of arrival or departure, online or with the paper M form, and information on the Expat Scheme (30% facility) for employees recruited from abroad, which is applied for together with the employer. For foreign entrepreneurs it explains Dutch VAT and registration. Separate tax information lines serve residents and people with non-resident tax questions, and appointments can be made at a tax office or support point, or by phone or video call.

What they offer

Good to know

  • Allowances (toeslagen) are handled by Dienst Toeslagen, a separate part of the Ministry of Finance, even though the Mijn toeslagen login sits on belastingdienst.nl.
  • Customs (Douane) has been a separate directorate-general since 2021.
  • The English site mainly serves non-residents and foreign businesses, and several pages for residents and sole traders are in Dutch only.
  • Online appointment booking is in Dutch only, and staff assist in Dutch or English. Otherwise you need to bring an interpreter.
  • The Expat Scheme applies only if all its conditions are met and is applied for together with the employer.
