About
BuildinG is the knowledge and innovation centre for construction and infrastructure in the northern Netherlands. It was set up in 2017 on the initiative of a regional economic board and Hanze University of Applied Sciences, working with the national construction employers' body and the applied research organisation, to help the regional construction sector develop and apply new knowledge. Since 2022 it operates as part of the university's spatial knowledge centre and is linked to seven of its research chairs, covering topics such as structural safety and earthquakes, sustainable building, climate adaptation and real estate. Its facility in Groningen includes an outdoor climate test garden showing innovations in practice and an innovation test hall where new construction techniques, materials and methods are tested and validated before wider use. It also runs courses for professionals, including a multi day course on circular building, and holds recurring breakfast networking sessions. Its stated audience covers knowledge institutions, government bodies, community organisations, residents, businesses and construction professionals across the region. It is not an independent legal entity: its contact address runs on the university's own domain.
