About

Clever Clover works with brands in fast moving consumer goods, the sector covering food, drink and wellness products. It describes itself as an accelerator rather than as a fund. It has an office in Amsterdam and a second one in Wiener Neudorf in Austria, in the Billa building of REWE International, and says it draws on a network of more than 25 sector specialists across eight countries. Its main offering is a programme called the Startup Ticket, which gives a selected brand three things: mentoring and coaching from Clever Clover itself, shelf space through the REWE and Billa supermarket chains, and financing contacts through Erste Bank. The firm also says in general terms that it invests in the companies it works with, but it publishes no investment amount, no equity terms and no fixed programme length. It states that it has worked with more than 80 consumer goods brands. It is privately owned, and its programme is a commercial offer rather than a publicly funded scheme.

What they offer

  • Mentoring and coaching for consumer goods brands, with introductions to retail buyers and to a financing partner

Programmes

Good to know

  • It presents itself as an accelerator. The financing in its Startup Ticket comes from a named bank partner, and it publishes no cheque size, equity terms or programme length of its own.
  • The retail route it offers runs through the REWE and Billa chains, which are Austrian and central European rather than Dutch.
  • Its counterparties are consumer goods brands, and it publishes no route in for anyone else.
