About
Clinic, whose legal name is Stichting de Clinic, is a Dutch foundation offering free legal advice in information law. It describes itself as Europe's first law incubator. The areas it covers include copyright, trademark, design, patent, privacy, consumer, database, media and gambling law. Its model brings together master's level Information Law students, specialised lawyers who advise pro bono, and people who submit a legal question. Students are supervised by teachers and researchers at the University of Amsterdam, and the coordination role is held by staff connected to the university's Institute for Information Law, though Clinic operates as its own foundation with its own board rather than as a formal university department. It serves startups and individuals who submit a question through the website, aiming to lower the practical barrier to specialist legal advice for people who would not otherwise be able to afford it.
