About
COC Groningen & Drenthe is a regional LGBTQIA+ organisation covering the provinces of Groningen and Drenthe. It is part of COC Nederland, described on its own site as a federation of twenty regional associations across the country, and it works to advance acceptance, equal rights and community connection for LGBTQIA+ people. Its activities include recurring community gatherings, a schools programme covering safety and gender and sexuality alliances, and support with reporting incidents. It also runs a monthly group, held every second Saturday of the month at Humanitas in Groningen, specifically for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender asylum seekers and other LGBTI+ migrants. The stated aim of that group is to reduce isolation, connect participants with peers, and help them become acquainted with LGBTI+ life in the Netherlands. The organisation states plainly that it cannot itself provide legal, medical, mental health or financial help, and refers people to other organisations instead. It relies on volunteers and on membership.
