Codam is suited to applicants who already have the right to live in the Netherlands and can commit to a full-time, in-person software engineering programme. It is not a student-visa route or a government-accredited degree programme.
About
Codam Coding College is a tuition-free, full-time software engineering school at Marineterrein Amsterdam, operated by Stichting Codam and the official 42 campus in Amsterdam. It uses the 42 peer-to-peer, project-based model rather than traditional classroom teaching: students learn through coding projects, peer evaluation, exams and collaboration. Applicants do not need a prior diploma or previous coding experience, but they must be at least 18 and complete Codam's selection process, including the four-week Selection Piscine. Codam Core is designed as a two-year programme in software engineering fundamentals, with Codam Advanced available as a follow-up route for further specialisation. Alongside the technical curriculum, Codam provides professional-development workshops, CV and interview support, mentorship, company visits, Talent Days and networking opportunities. Internships or professional experience form part of the learning route, and Codam also connects students and graduates with employers through its Jobs Portal. A Student Affairs team supports study progress and wellbeing, while an assistance programme can help eligible students with costs such as travel, housing or living expenses. For internationals, the main boundary is immigration and accreditation. Codam is not officially recognised as a Dutch higher-education institution and cannot provide student visas. Applicants who need immigration permission must already have a valid right to stay, and Codam states that students must be legally allowed to remain in the Netherlands for at least 365 consecutive days from the start of the curriculum.

Good to know
- Codam is not officially recognised by the Dutch government as an accredited higher-education institution. Its certificates are not government-recognised degrees, and Codam students cannot use Dutch student finance or the student travel product.
- Codam cannot provide student visas. Non-EU/Schengen applicants need an existing valid immigration status that allows them to study and stay in the Netherlands; Codam says students must be legally allowed to remain for at least 365 consecutive days from the start of the curriculum.
- The curriculum is full-time, averaging around 40 hours per week, and cannot be completed part-time or fully remotely.
- No prior diploma or coding experience is required, but admission is not automatic: applicants must meet the age requirement and complete Codam's selection process, including the Selection Piscine.
- Codam provides career and employer connections, but students remain responsible for securing their own internship and employment opportunities.
