About

dsm-firmenich Ventures is the investing unit of dsm-firmenich, a group supplying fragrance, flavour, nutrition and health ingredients, organised into business units for Perfumery and Beauty, Taste, Texture and Health, Health, Nutrition and Care, and Animal Nutrition and Health. Its Ventures page says it offers funding, coaching and support to startups working on change in nutrition, health and beauty, and that it has invested in more than a hundred startups since 2001. To be considered, a company must fit the group's own aims for at least one of three named business units, or offer a technology platform or digital tool that works across sectors. Investments are minority holdings, usually between 5 and 25 percent, sized from 500,000 to 5 million euro, with further capital reserved for follow-on rounds. It invests at early and growth stage in North America and Europe, calls its money strategic capital, and takes part at board level alongside the company rather than only funding it. Startups are asked to make contact through the group contact page. This is a commercial investor owned by an industrial group, not a public funding scheme.

What they offer

  • Minority equity investment of 500,000 to 5 million euro in early and growth stage startups
  • Follow-on capital reserved for later rounds
  • Coaching and board level involvement alongside the investment
  • Access to the group's expertise and technology

Good to know

  • The test is strategic fit with at least one of the group's own named business units, or a platform that works across them.
  • It is a unit inside a group rather than a standalone organisation, and publishes no separate legal entity, address or contact route.
  • It invests in companies. Its pages say nothing about internationals, newcomers or relocation.
