The GrenzInfoPunkt EDR is a free and independent advice point for people whose daily life crosses the Dutch German border, covering questions about living on one side while working, studying or running a business on the other. For someone in Groningen, Drenthe or Fryslan who takes a job in Germany, or for a German who moves the other way, this is the regional place to ask those questions.
About
The Ems Dollart Region, known as EDR, is a public law association that joins 82 members from both sides of the Dutch German border: public institutions, districts, cities and municipalities from the provinces of Groningen, Drenthe and Fryslan and from the Weser-Ems area in Lower Saxony. It was founded in 1977, and its office is in Bad Nieuweschans on the Dutch side of the border. The area it covers is about 20,166 square kilometres, a little over half of it in the Netherlands, with roughly 2.8 million inhabitants. Its purpose is to build and extend cooperation between partners on either side of the border, with stated goals on the cross border labour market, the shared economic area, digital services for public provision, health and demographic change, and a regional sense of being one neighbourhood. In practice it coordinates projects, guides applicants through the Interreg funding programme for the German Dutch border and administers a fund for small projects, supports learning of the neighbouring language and cultural exchange, and runs the GrenzInfoPunkt EDR, a free and independent advice point for questions that arise from living, working, studying and doing business across the border. Its website is published in German and in Dutch.
