About
ESN Groningen is a student-run association in the city of Groningen and one of the Dutch local sections of the Erasmus Student Network. Where the national organisation coordinates the sections, this section is the one that actually runs activities for students in a city, under the motto students helping students, with a full-time student board and committees beneath it. Its year is built around a large introduction week at the start of the semester, followed by a continuing programme of weekly events, day excursions, international dinners and cultural activities. Students arriving in the city can apply for a buddy, and students already there can sign up to be one. Membership comes with the ESNcard, which gives discounts, and the section runs an app for events and member benefits and a podcast about student life. It also keeps a group of Confidential Contact People for students who experience or witness behaviour breaching its code of conduct, with an incident report form that can be submitted anonymously; the section states plainly that these contacts are volunteers rather than trained professionals. Its office is in central Groningen.

Good to know
- Its activities are for students in the city of Groningen. Students in other Dutch cities are served by the section there, and national coordination is handled by ESN the Netherlands.
- The section states that its Confidential Contact People are volunteers and not trained professionals, so serious matters need a professional service.
- It is a student association run by volunteers, with no role in admissions, enrolment, housing allocation or residence permits.
- No partner university or university of applied sciences is named on its pages, so it is not the student service of any one institution.
