Netherlands-wide

The Dutch national organisation of the Erasmus Student Network, which supports and coordinates the local ESN sections rather than running activities for students in one city.

Organisation records are published from the Flux Forward organisation register and shown here exactly as that register holds them. We do not research, write or edit them on this site, and a listing is not an endorsement or a sign that an organisation can help with your situation. More about where our information comes from

ESN the Netherlands is the coordinating body for the Dutch ESN sections; a student looking for buddy schemes or events should approach the section in their own city.

About

ESN the Netherlands is the Dutch national organisation of the Erasmus Student Network, the volunteer-run European student association founded in 1989 to support student exchange. It is deliberately a layer above the city sections rather than a service point: it does not run buddy schemes, introduction weeks or social programmes itself. What it does is look after the local sections, which sit in Amsterdam, Breda, Delft, Groningen, Haarlem, Leiden, Maastricht, Nijmegen, Rotterdam, The Hague, Tilburg, Twente, Utrecht, Wageningen and Zwolle, and support the founding of new ones. National teams handle specific jobs: an Education Team that follows Dutch policy on internationalisation and studies the position of international students, a Membership Team responsible for the quality of the network, a Training Coordinator who maintains a pool of trainers, an International Office linking the Dutch network to the wider association, and committees for communication, IT, projects and national activities. It organises National Platforms and community meetings for section volunteers. Its office is in Rotterdam.

What they offer

  • Coordination and quality support for the Dutch ESN local sections
  • Support for founding new local sections
  • National Platforms and community meetings for section volunteers
  • A pool of trainers available to the network for training and workshops
  • Advocacy and research on student mobility and internationalisation in the Netherlands

Good to know

  • This is the national office. Buddy schemes, introduction activities, trips and city events are run by the local sections, so a student arriving in a Dutch city should contact the section there rather than this office.
  • It is a volunteer student association, not a university service or a public body, and it has no role in admissions, enrolment or residence permits.
  • Its coordinating work covers the Dutch sections. The wider Erasmus Student Network is a separate European association and its programmes are not run from here.
