Organisation records are published from the Flux Forward organisation register and shown here exactly as that register holds them. We do not research, write or edit them on this site, and a listing is not an endorsement or a sign that an organisation can help with your situation. Check the organisation's own website before acting.
Two things a newcomer to Fryslan will meet: the vocational school a teenager chooses after secondary school, and an adult division that sells one to one Dutch language coaching and short certified courses.
About
Firda is a school for Dutch secondary vocational education, the level that sits between secondary school and higher education. Its own pages describe around nineteen locations across Fryslan and Noord-Flevoland, organised into smaller colleges so teaching stays close to students, with several sites in Leeuwarden and others in Drachten, Dokkum, Heerenveen, Sneek and Emmeloord. It offers more than two hundred programmes at different levels, in fields ranging from elderly care and sport to civil engineering and the armed forces. A second division is built around adults: study close to home, several starting moments a year, evening classes, a route to finish a diploma faster, and one to one Dutch language coaching. It also issues microcredentials, short practical courses developed with employers that end in a certificate recognised in Dutch vocational and higher education. Companies can buy training for their staff, ask about training subsidies, and offer work placements to students. Friesland College and ROC Friese Poort both continue as Firda, and their web domains redirect to it.
What they offer
- More than two hundred vocational programmes for young people
- Microcredentials, short practical courses ending in a recognised certificate
- Work placements and student assignments offered by companies
- Study choice information for pupils, parents and school career counsellors
Good to know
- Its geography is Fryslan and Noord-Flevoland.
- Everything it publishes is in Dutch, and no English version of the site was found, so expect to work in Dutch from the first enquiry.
- It teaches at vocational level. University and university of applied sciences programmes are elsewhere.
- Diploma recognition for a qualification obtained abroad is decided by the national credential evaluation route, not by the school.
