About
Founded in South Holland is a regional initiative rather than a standalone organisation. It grew out of a provincial taskforce on startups and scale-ups and is run together with public and private partners across the province: the regional development company, the Province of Zuid-Holland, the Rotterdam The Hague metropolitan region, a Rotterdam startup body, the municipalities of Rotterdam, The Hague, Leiden and Delft, and Erasmus University Rotterdam, TU Delft and Leiden University. Its starting point is that far more companies are started in the province than reach scale-up size, and that the gap comes less from missing ingredients than from parts of the system failing to connect at the moment a founder needs them. The obstacles it names are hiring senior staff quickly, raising follow-on funding, finding customers that match a company's ambition, dealing with regulation, and securing space to expand. In response it follows companies that are growing, identifies where they get stuck, and introduces founders to the people and organisations that can help. Towards partner organisations it presents itself as a way to gain clearer positioning rather than as a competing programme.
