Goeie Grutten Impact Fonds is an impact investment fund registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce and working from a converted nineteenth century warehouse on the Havendijk in Gorinchem. Two entrepreneurs from family business backgrounds started it in 2015 because they wanted their capital to produce measurable social results as well as a financial return. The fund has two themes. The first is responsible, healthy and varied food, including raising the productivity of the food system in a more sustainable way. The second is the energy transition, which it approaches as a whole system rather than as single technologies. It invests directly in companies and also places money in other funds. Its small team combines investing experience with backgrounds in marketing, econometrics, corporate finance, strategy consulting and the food and consumer goods sector, and it helps portfolio companies with their proposition, with bringing a product to market and with reaching their stated impact goals, acting as shareholder, adviser, supervisory board member or coach. Named direct investments run from orchard imaging technology and greenhouse climate systems to cashew processing closer to where the nuts grow, plant based food brands and battery technology.
