About
Groningen Airport Eelde is the regional airport for the north of the Netherlands. It sits at Machlaan in Eelde, in the municipality of Tynaarlo in the province of Drenthe. Its own organisation page describes it as a public limited company whose shares are held by the province of Groningen, the province of Drenthe, the municipality of Tynaarlo and FB Oranjewoud, and it is run by a management board and a management team under a supervisory board. Most of its scheduled passenger traffic is holiday flying, and it also handles general aviation and business aviation. Two other lines of work sit alongside the flights. It lets space on a business park at the airport, and it is developing what it calls the Airport Campus, an education cluster on the site. The KLM Flight Academy has trained pilots there since 1954, and the regional vocational college Noorderpoort teaches its air cabin crew, travel and tourism students in the terminal building, where they take part in check-in, boarding and hospitality work.
