Teaching is in English rather than Dutch and only one day a week is in person, so someone living anywhere in the country can take part, and the programme ends with job coaching and introductions to companies that hire its trainees.
About
HackYourFuture is a Dutch not-for-profit foundation that trains refugees and displaced people who have the right to work for careers as software developers. Its Development Program has five stages: a four-week application and selection round, a four-month core programme covering coding and personal development, four months on one specialisation track chosen from front-end, back-end, cloud, data or software testing, one month of job preparation, and then six months or more of internship and work. The format is hybrid. One day a week is a face-to-face session at ALab on Overhoeksplein in Amsterdam and the rest is online self-study. The programme is free and a laptop is provided to those who need one. Applicants need English at about B2 level and a bachelor-level background, which does not have to be technical, and selection is on motivation, readiness to learn and commitment rather than on prior coding. Mentors are volunteers from the technology industry.
