About
Hanze University of Applied Sciences is a Dutch hogeschool, the applied higher education tier that sits alongside the research universities. It is based in Groningen, at Zernikeplein. Its work is organised into four parts: degree programmes at bachelor's and master's level, exchange programmes and minors, practice-oriented research, and collaboration with employers and other organisations in the region. Its stated aim is to build a strong region together with students, professionals, staff and partners. It traces its origin to 1798, when, by its own account, six citizens of Groningen set out to establish it, and it describes itself as the oldest comprehensive university of applied sciences in the Netherlands. It contains a number of named schools, among them the Minerva Art Academy, the Prins Claus Conservatorium and the International Business School. It is a member of the STARS European University alliance and takes part in the Erasmus exchange programme.
