About
imec.istart The Netherlands is the Dutch country programme of imec.istart, an accelerator that started in Belgium in 2011 and now runs in several European countries. Its privacy statement names the responsible entity as the Belgian research association Interuniversitair Micro-Electronica Centrum in Leuven, and no separate Dutch legal entity is published. The Dutch presence is nevertheless specific: the programme launched here in 2021, is run together with the university incubator Novel-T, has its own programme and fund staff, works from the Mercator science park in Nijmegen, and requires an applicant to be headquartered in the Netherlands. It takes technology startups, hardware or software, that have a working proof of concept and a founding team covering the main skills. The offer is a pre-seed investment, split between equity and a convertible loan, with a route to apply for further follow-on funding. Alongside the money each company gets a venture acceleration manager as a day-to-day coach, workshops and follow-up tracks, a progress tracking tool, introductions to investors here and abroad, access to imec research, a community of startups and help with recruitment.

- Entry conditions are specific: a working proof of concept, a founding team covering the main skills, and a head office in the Netherlands.
- The investment includes equity and a convertible-loan component, so taking part means giving up a stake on the accelerator's terms.
