About
The Immigration and Naturalisation Service is an executive agency of the Dutch national government. Its own pages describe it as an agency with a Managing Director that comes under the Ministry of Justice and Security, with the Minister for Migration politically responsible, and state that it bases its decisions on the laws and regulations made by the Dutch Parliament and on European and international treaties and conventions. Its work falls into two main areas. The first is residency: applying for, extending or changing a residence permit, and the rules that apply while living here with one. It states that most residency applications come from people who want to work or study in the Netherlands, or who want to join someone already living here. The second is asylum. Separately from both, it handles Dutch citizenship, including naturalisation. Its site is structured around those tasks, with sections for residency, citizenship, the organisation, statistics and publications, and contact.
