About
Leeuwarden Student City is a foundation established in December 1999 by the higher education institutions in the city, with the University of Groningen's Leeuwarden campus and a regional college joining later. Its stated purpose is to improve the student experience in and around Leeuwarden and to strengthen students' ties to the city, and it also presents Leeuwarden as a place to come and study. It describes three ways of working: organising activities for and with students, acting as a network partner alongside other organisations and their events, and serving as a central information point through its website and social channels. All of its income and spending go to two things: the joint introduction programme for students in Leeuwarden, and the student sports programme. Its money comes from a municipal subsidy, contributions from the education institutions and from funds, and its own earnings from sports passes, participation fees and festival tickets. It has a small permanent staff working with students, and its office is on the Rengerslaan in Leeuwarden.
