About
Legal Expat Desk is an information service about Dutch law for internationals living in the Netherlands, published in English. It is not a separate organisation: it was created in 2006 by GMW lawyers, a firm based in The Hague, and is still run by that firm, which describes the site as an information hub powered by GMW lawyers. The address, telephone number and general email published for it are the firm's. Knowing that changes how to read it, because it is one commercial firm's own channel rather than a neutral or public advice desk. Its material is grouped in five practice areas: business law, covering contracts, claims and mergers; employment law, covering contracts, disputes and pensions; family law, covering marriage, divorce, inheritance and estate planning; liability law, covering accidents, injuries and unlawful acts; and property law, covering renting, buying and letting out a home. It comes in three forms: a knowledge base of articles filterable by area of law, a set of frequently asked questions, and white papers downloaded through a form. An Ask an Expert form passes a specific question to one of the firm's lawyers.

Good to know
- The site is a channel of one law firm, GMW lawyers in The Hague, and the questions it takes go to that firm's own lawyers. It is not an independent, public or free legal advice service.
