Leeuwarden publishes its whole municipal website in English, including the pages on registering with the local authority, moving house, identity documents and Dutch citizenship and integration, so a person arriving from abroad can read in English what they have to do. Registration with this municipality is how someone living at a Leeuwarden address enters the Dutch population register and is issued a citizen service number. The municipality also publishes a telephone number specifically for people calling from outside the Netherlands.

Leeuwarden is a Dutch municipality in the province of Fryslan, and Gemeente Leeuwarden is its local government. It publishes a complete English version of its website, so its information for residents can be read in English as well as Dutch. The English pages are grouped by subject and cover moving house and registering with the local authority, passports, identity cards and driving licences, Dutch citizenship and integration, births, marriage and registered partnership, taxes, permits under the Environmental Act, grants and loans, the Social Support Act, work and education, youth services, and a section for entrepreneurs. The town hall is at Oldehoofsterkerkhof 2 in Leeuwarden, with a second building, the city hall, at Hofplein 38. Civil affairs, called Burgerzaken in Dutch, works by appointment, although passports, identity cards and driving licences can also be applied for and collected without one. A walk-in desk at the town hall called the Meedenkpunt helps people who do not understand a letter, a surcharge or a benefit decision, and the municipality also points residents to district and village community centres. Besides the municipal number 14 058, it publishes a separate number for callers outside the Netherlands, a WhatsApp number, an online chat and a contact form.
