Its participants are people who came to the Netherlands as refugees and are starting again with qualifications, experience and contacts that do not carry over easily. The foundation gives them sector training taught by employees of Dutch companies, a coach and a buddy, and direct contact with employers, which addresses the specific gaps that make finding work here difficult after a forced move.

About
New Dutch Connections is a stichting working with people who fled to the Netherlands and are building a working life here. It names its participants as unaccompanied minor refugees, asylum seekers and people who have been granted status. Its work runs along two connected lines. The first is the Toekomst Academie. A partner company builds a training module in its own field, and its employees teach a weekly lesson for twelve weeks, so participants learn the subject and also see how a Dutch workplace runs. Every participant is matched with a buddy and a coach, and the foundation trains those volunteers and holds peer sessions for them. A company that cannot run a whole module can instead give a single guest lesson of a few hours, where participants try out a trade in a garage or a kitchen, or can offer a learning place for one or two days or for longer. The second line is theatre. The foundation produces stage work based on the real accounts of people who fled, including a series with live music in which newcomers present their own plans for the future, and uses the performances to bring together audiences, organisations and newcomers who rarely meet. As a foundation it depends on sponsors, funds, subsidies and gifts, and it also asks companies for used equipment.
