About
The Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency is the government body that attracts foreign companies to the Netherlands and helps them establish here. Its own pages describe it as an operational unit of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, so it sits inside central government rather than being a separate company or foundation. It offers three things: current information on the Netherlands as a business location, covering legislation, tax rules, labour law, permit procedures and government incentives; practical help with the steps of setting up a Dutch operation; and specialists assigned by sector, among them energy, high-tech systems and materials, agrifood, chemicals, IT, fintech, maritime and water, and life sciences and health. It presents itself as a company's first point of contact and then connects that company to regional partners in the Invest in Holland network, which it convenes with the regional development agencies and several cities. That network is a separate arrangement: the agency operates the shared website, but the partner list is not the agency itself. Its headquarters is in The Hague, with staff at Dutch embassies and consulates abroad.

Good to know
- The agency's clients are companies and their advisers. It runs no service for individual residents, job seekers or newcomers, who normally encounter it only through an employer establishing a Dutch entity.
- It advises on permit procedures but issues nothing. Residence and work permits are decided by the Immigration and Naturalisation Service, and tax rulings by the Dutch tax administration.
- Invest in Holland is the network the agency convenes with the regional development agencies and several cities, not a description of the agency itself. What a regional partner offers is that partner's own service.
