NLcompass
Directory Media · Netherlands-wide
A free English language reference site on Dutch permits, housing, healthcare, tax and banking, plus a provider directory. It is paid for by advertising and affiliate commission.
From the Flux Forward organisation register · Not edited on this site How we check thisHide
Organisation records are published from the Flux Forward organisation register and shown here exactly as that register holds them. We do not research, write or edit them on this site, and a listing is not an endorsement or a sign that an organisation can help with your situation. Check the organisation's own website before acting.
Useful for orientation before and just after arrival, but the listings and offers earn the site commission, so treat it as a starting point rather than an impartial comparison.
About
NLCompass is a website that explains how life and administration work in the Netherlands, written in English and free to read without an account. Its about page says it was started by people who had moved to the country themselves and found the information scattered across government sites, out of date forum threads and paid services. The content falls into two parts. The first is a library of guides: visas and permits including the highly skilled migrant route and the arrangement for United States citizens, the thirty percent ruling, then housing, healthcare and registering with a doctor, banking, the national digital identity, income tax, utilities and telecoms, and everyday matters such as language basics and getting around. Guides carry a date and are rewritten as rules change. The second part is a directory of Dutch providers grouped into housing, legal, healthcare, tax help, insurance, registration and municipal services, and banking, each entry linking out to the provider. There is also a questionnaire that produces a moving checklist. The site runs on advertising and affiliate commission, which it states on its about page and in its privacy policy.
What they offer
- Free English language guides on permits, housing, healthcare, tax, banking and utilities
- Directory of Dutch providers by category and city
- Questionnaire producing a personal moving checklist
Good to know
- It earns commission on listings and offers, so its recommendations are not an impartial comparison of the market.
- It explains rules but does not act for you. Applications, registration and tax filing still go through the responsible Dutch body.
- It is written by a small team and is not an official source. Check anything decisive against the government page for that rule.

This entry describes an independent organisation. How to in NL is not affiliated with them, listing is not an endorsement, and it does not mean they can help with your particular situation. Check the details on their own website before acting.
