About
NOM is the investment and development company for the northern Netherlands, covering the provinces of Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe from offices in Groningen and Leeuwarden. It answers the question of what it is directly on its own site: a private company that makes its own decisions, with the economic affairs ministry and the three northern provinces as shareholders. Its work runs along three lines. Investing means putting venture capital into companies in the region so they can grow faster. Innovating means linking someone with a workable idea to parties in its network who can help carry it out. Internationalising covers both companies from the region expanding abroad and companies from outside the Netherlands establishing themselves in the north, which it pursues to add economic activity and employment. Eight sectors are named as its areas of expertise: agriculture and food, energy, green chemistry, high tech systems and materials, information technology, life sciences and health, water technology and maritime. It also acts as fund manager for others, covering legal work, investment management, administration, reporting and control.
