About
Omroep Leeuwarden is the streekomroep, the public local broadcaster, of the municipality of Leeuwarden in Fryslan. Its slogan is Voor stad en dorp, for city and village, and it covers both the city itself and the villages inside the municipal boundary. It works across media: radio, television with text TV pages, a news website and an app, and social media accounts. The daily output is local journalism, with news, culture, politics, sport and local happenings as the main subjects, and the site files its reporting by category, including a police and emergency services section. The organisation is a foundation, Stichting Omroep Leeuwarden, run by a three-member board. Like every Dutch streekomroep it must have a programme policy body, which checks the plurality and quality of what is broadcast and advises the board on serving residents better. A core editorial team is supported by volunteers and interns, many of them working in the radio department. It is a member of NLPO, the branch organisation for local and regional broadcasters.
