More about where our information comes from

For somebody moving to Fryslan this is the main source of provincial news, and it also shows the language situation in practice: Frisian is the working language and no English service was found, though the broadcaster says non-Frisian speakers are welcome to follow along.

About

Omrop Fryslan is the regional public broadcaster of the province of Fryslan, run by a foundation from an office in Leeuwarden. It describes itself as the regional public broadcaster for everyone who feels connected to Fryslan, and sums up what it makes as content that informs, inspires and entertains. Frisian is the language of the house: all presenters and reporters use Frisian as their first language, and the broadcaster explicitly invites people who do not speak Frisian to follow it as well. It operates radio, television, its website, a separate site for children and young people, and mobile and tablet apps. The output covers provincial and town news, a running emergency services desk, culture, and sport particular to the province, including the traditional Frisian sports of keatsen and fierljeppen alongside the Frisian football clubs. Recurring fixtures include a television news programme, a short item series, a weather slot, a radio programme, an archive strand and an annual music countdown. Governance runs through a supervisory board and a media council, and its own structured data gives 1978 as the founding year.
