Orange Wings Investments is a venture capital fund that invests in early-stage companies and describes its purpose as impact investing. It says it has been backing founders for close to a decade. Its three investment themes are AgriTech, Climate and People, and it states that all of its investments must make a positive environmental or social difference. A first investment is typically between 250,000 and 2 million euros, often as the first large investor in a company, after which the fund keeps investing through later rounds. In the early stage it prefers to be the only minority shareholder. It says it looks at the founders as much as the plan, prefers teams with more than one founder, and expects a clear problem worth solving, the potential for a high return, and founders who are open to being challenged. Beyond capital its own team works with portfolio companies on strategy, financial reporting, marketing, operations and hiring, including executive recruitment for scale-ups. Named portfolio companies work on digital tools for agriculture, ocean restoration using oysters, biodegradable coffins, and mobile solar power to replace diesel generators.
