More about where our information comes from

It runs the talent programme for the Dutch photonic chip industry and operates a job platform for it, so an engineer, researcher or graduate who has moved here to work in photonics can see which companies make up the Dutch value chain and which courses lead into the field.

About

PhotonDelta Foundation is a nonprofit organisation in Eindhoven that works on the whole value chain for photonic chips, from design and production through packaging to use in finished products. It names four application markets: automotive and mobility, data and telecom, food and agriculture, and medical and healthcare. Its work has four parts. It distributes subsidies for innovation projects. It funds startups at the stage where their risk is high. It supports international collaboration for companies trying to grow and industrialise the technology. And it runs a human capital programme that raises awareness of photonics careers at vocational, higher professional and university level, supports reskilling and specialised education, and operates a job platform for the Dutch photonic chip industry. Named programmes include a master's programme in optics and photonics run with three Dutch technical universities, a young professional programme and an advanced professional programme, summer schools and hackathons, and a photonics careers event for students at several education levels. Its funding comes largely from the Dutch National Growth Fund alongside other investments.

Good to know

  • Its subject is integrated photonics. Its usefulness is confined to people and companies working in that field.
  • Its subsidies and startup funding go to companies and projects, not to individuals.
  • It is a foundation working on an industry, not a service for arriving newcomers.
