About
PortXL is an accelerator for start-ups and scale-ups working in the maritime and port sector. It was founded in 2015 in Rotterdam and works from Innovation Dock at Scheepsbouwweg 8, in the port area of the city. The programme is strictly business to business: it puts young companies in front of established firms in shipping, logistics, offshore and oil and gas, and in contact with mentors, rather than aiming at consumers. PortXL states that the programme is meant to speed up decarbonisation, the energy transition and operational efficiency in the port, and to help its corporate partners meet their own sustainability targets. It describes itself as the first accelerator built for the maritime industry, and says its value lies in the combined network of start-ups, scale-ups, corporate partners and mentors. Participants are not only Dutch: one published participant statement is from an American company that used the programme to reach the European market. Its privacy policy names three legal entities behind the brand: PortXL Netherlands B.V., PortXL International B.V. and Stichting PortXL.
