For someone who has just moved to Drenthe this is not where arrival business is done. Registration, a citizen service number and residence permits are handled by the municipality and the IND. The one direct route the province offers an individual is its desk for entrepreneurs.
About
The Province of Drenthe is one of the twelve Dutch provinces and sits between national government and the municipalities. Its provincial house is at Westerbrink 1 in Assen. Decisions are taken by an elected assembly, the Provinciale Staten, which in Drenthe carries the name Drents Parlement, and by an executive, the Gedeputeerde Staten, which meets weekly and publishes its agendas and lists of decisions. Residents can speak at assembly meetings, ask for a subject to be put on the agenda, or use formal consultation procedures. The province publishes an index of its products and services, most of which are permits, exemptions and notifications: carrying out activities in a designated quiet area or a groundwater protection zone, soil investigation on business sites, and proof of liability cover for storing professional fireworks. It checks each year whether the budgets of Drenthe municipalities and joint arrangements are balanced, and it can mediate between municipalities and water boards. It also maintains provincial roads including the N34, runs subsidy schemes, publishes official notices, keeps a desk for entrepreneurs in Drenthe called Ik Ben Drents Ondernemer, and operates an environmental complaints line.
