About

Pymwymic is an impact investment firm with its office in Amsterdam. Its name is a compression of the phrase Put Your Money Where Your Meaning Is Community, which is how it began: in 1994 a group of Dutch entrepreneurs and investors started backing companies they thought could change the way business works. That group later formed a cooperative, a co-owned investment vehicle, and in 2017 the organisation became the venture capital investor it is now, with the cooperative as its cornerstone investor and a foundation as the ultimate owner, an arrangement it says protects the mission over the long term and keeps profit tied to purpose. Its investment focus is technology across the agriculture and food chain, at Series A and Series B, with amounts up to five million euro, in companies that can scale and that mostly have a European head office. It says it works on impact in the daily running of the companies it backs rather than only in reporting, and that it advises on go to market strategy and on measuring results such as reduced chemical use and reduced food waste. Startups can approach it directly through its site.

Good to know

  • It invests at Series A and Series B. An idea or a pre-revenue company is earlier than its stated entry point.
  • Its field is technology across the agriculture and food chain, and it looks for a European head office.
  • It is a group of entities rather than one, with a cooperative as cornerstone investor and a foundation as ultimate owner.
