About
Rabo Investments is how Rabobank invests equity capital. Its own site calls it the investment arm of the bank and says it is backed by the bank, and its contact address sits on the bank's mail domain, so it is a business line rather than an independent investment house. It invests directly in companies and also as an investor in other people's funds, across early stage, growth and mature businesses, and it names food and agriculture and sustainability as its two areas. Four teams do the work: private equity, fund and co-investments, ventures, and corporate venturing. Its own timeline sets out how this came about. The bank started a private equity fund for mid-sized Dutch companies in the early 1990s. In 1996 those activities were spun out into a separate buyout partnership, with the bank staying on as anchor investor. A growth investment arm followed in 2002. In 2013 three more funds were spun out, with the bank remaining an investor in each. In 2022 the bank's corporate venturing work was folded into Rabo Investments, bringing all of its equity investing under one roof.
