About
Rechtswinkel Groningen is a volunteer organisation that has given free legal advice since the 1970s. Its advisers are around 45 students who have at least passed the first year of a law degree at the University of Groningen, and part of the selection is a test of competence. Advice is given by telephone during consultation hours on every working day, costs nothing, and there is no limit on how often someone may call, although the organisation asks people to put all their questions into one call. Questions can also be sent to its general address, but it prefers the telephone because an adviser can then ask follow-up questions; if a contract or other document needs to be looked at, people are asked to scan or photograph it first. Every case is written down and checked by a section specialist, and the group can fall back on a network of lawyers, professors and other specialists. It is known in the city and province of Groningen and also advises people who call from elsewhere in the country.

Good to know
- Advice comes from law students rather than from a legal practice, and the organisation has no statutory task and gives no representation or formal decision.
