About
SHIFT Invest is an impact venture capital fund based in Amstelveen, just south of Amsterdam. It calls itself a multi-stage fund: it can come in at pre-seed and stay with a company until it is commercially established, and it keeps capital back for follow-on rounds. Its stated purpose is to work against climate change, biodiversity loss and the depletion of natural resources, and it says it accepts financial and impact risks that conventional investors will not take. Its four themes are smart food and agriculture, green industries, energy transition, and sustainable mobility and logistics. It normally takes a lead or co-lead position in a round and stays involved with the management team afterwards. Its published process runs from an introduction meeting through analysis and a term sheet, due diligence and closing, to active participation and then an exit, which it expects to be realistic several years after investing and preferably through a full sale of the company. Founders start by submitting information about their business through the website.

Good to know
- It states that it aims for an exit, preferably a full sale of the company, several years after investing. A founder who does not want to sell should say so early.
- Its four themes are food and agriculture, green industries, energy transition, and mobility and logistics. Outside those it does not invest.
- A commercial fund. It takes a shareholding, leads or co-leads, and expects a corresponding say in how the company is run.
