The support points for status holders, run with VluchtelingenWerk Nederland at four village locations, are the part aimed specifically at people who have arrived from abroad. Meetings there are by appointment, arranged by telephone.
About
Sociaal Werk De Schans is a local social work organisation for the municipality of Westerkwartier in the province of Groningen, with its office at Lindensteinlaan 44 in Leek. It describes its approach through the idea of Positieve Gezondheid, the ability to adapt and to keep direction over your own life when facing physical, emotional and social challenges. Its staff help residents with health, money, paid and voluntary work and taking part in local life, and with informal care given to a relative or a neighbour. It also makes plans with residents to improve life in a street or a village. Two parts of its work are specific to it. It runs the Steungroep Westerkwartier, weekly peer support groups in Leek and Zuidhorn led together with the organisation Ixta Noa by people who have their own experience of recovery, which residents join free of charge after an intake conversation. Separately, with VluchtelingenWerk Nederland, it hosts support points for status holders at village locations in Leek, Zuidhorn, Marum and Grootegast, where staff and volunteers help with learning Dutch and Dutch customs, getting to know the neighbourhood, doing the shopping and keeping paperwork in order.
