Organisation records are published from the Flux Forward organisation register and shown here exactly as that register holds them. We do not research, write or edit them on this site, and a listing is not an endorsement or a sign that an organisation can help with your situation. Check the organisation's own website before acting.
People who have just moved to Groningen usually rent privately and are least able to judge whether a rent, an agency fee or an all-in price is lawful. This is free, independent help on exactly that, published in English.
About
Steunpunt Huren Groningen is an independent foundation that helps people with rental questions and rental disputes in the municipality of Groningen. It was set up in 2021 by the municipality together with the Groningen student union and an existing advice point on agency fees, and it receives a subsidy from the municipality. Its own site states that every resident of the municipality with a rental question or problem is welcome, and that its advice, mediation and legal assistance are free. The subjects it covers are the everyday problems of the Dutch rental market: checking whether a rent is lawful and asking for a reduction, disputes about agency and intermediary fees, all-in rents where rent and service costs are not separated, repairs a landlord will not carry out, service charge settlements, and intimidation by a landlord. It publishes model letters and rental documents so tenants can put a request or a complaint in writing themselves, and it explains how a case at the rent tribunal works. A separate part of the site is for landlords. Its office can be reached by telephone, through a contact form, and in person at walk-in consultation hours.

Good to know
- It serves the municipality of Groningen. A tenant elsewhere needs their own local rental advice point.
- It advises, mediates and assists. Binding decisions on rent levels are made by the rent tribunal, not here.
- It receives a municipal subsidy while acting independently, which is worth knowing when the dispute involves the municipality itself.
