From the Flux Forward organisation register · Not edited on this site How we check this

Organisation records are published from the Flux Forward organisation register and shown here exactly as that register holds them. We do not research, write or edit them on this site, and a listing is not an endorsement or a sign that an organisation can help with your situation. Check the organisation's own website before acting.

More about where our information comes from

The route in is the thing to know: the person concerned cannot apply, and a worker at a social, community or financial support organisation has to submit the request.

About

SUN stands for Stichting Urgente Noden. The foundation started in 2012 for residents of the municipality of Groningen and now works for a growing number of municipalities in Groningen and Drenthe, covering only those that take part. It pays for things people in urgent financial need cannot cover themselves, and only where legal schemes or other provisions cannot be used or fall short. Requests come from staff at organisations working in the social, community or financial field, not from the person in need. Some of those organisations have signed a covenant with SUN, which is not a requirement for making a request. Grants are one-off and are meant to fit inside a support process aimed at lasting improvement. The examples the foundation gives are durable household goods, furnishing a home, daily living costs, clothing and activities for children. It is cautious about grants for debts and asks to be consulted first in those cases. The money paid out comes from funds, gifts and legacies, while the participating municipalities carry the cost of the office.

What they offer

Good to know

  • It decides whether a contribution is granted, and there is no appeal against the decision.
  • It pays only where statutory schemes and other provisions cannot be used or fall short. It does not replace them.
  • Its working area is the municipalities in Groningen and Drenthe that take part, which is a published list rather than all of them.
  • A complete application is decided within a week, and sooner when the need is high.
