The University of Groningen is a Dutch public research university. Its own site uses the Dutch name Rijksuniversiteit Groningen and states that the university was founded in 1614. Teaching and research are organised into nine faculties: Economics and Business, Behavioural and Social Sciences, Religion Culture and Society, Arts, Medical Sciences, Law, Spatial Sciences, Philosophy, and Science and Engineering. Alongside these it runs a university college and a campus in Leeuwarden, so the university is not confined to the city of Groningen. Its website is divided into sections for education, research, society and business, and alumni, which reflects what it does: degree programmes, academic research, collaboration with employers and public organisations, and a graduate network. The university states that it is an international university and that its community includes over 120 nationalities, and it describes itself as firmly rooted in the north of the Netherlands.
