About
Urban Impact Ventures is a venture capital investor focused on the sustainability transition in European cities. Its stated reason for that focus is that most of the European Union population lives in urban areas and those areas produce most of its economic output. The firm invests in early stage and expansion stage companies and combines the money with business development support drawn from its own experience in investing, impact entrepreneurship and sustainable urban development. Two themes shape the portfolio: decarbonisation and circularity. Investments are judged on financial return and on measured social and environmental results at the same time, through a three part framework: core impact against five of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals it treats as central to urban change in Europe, additional impact covering gender equality, inclusive economic growth and decent work with priority for underserved communities, and screening for negative effects across all seventeen goals. Its counterparties are company founders and management teams raising capital.
