Organisation records are published from the Flux Forward organisation register and shown here exactly as that register holds them. If you lose your job, fall ill or cannot work after working in the Netherlands, UWV is the agency that assesses and pays these employee-insurance benefits. If an employer wants to hire you from outside the EU, the EEA or Switzerland, it is the employer that applies to UWV for a work permit or to the IND for a single permit.
About
UWV (Uitvoeringsinstituut Werknemersverzekeringen), known in English as the Employee Insurance Agency, is an autonomous administrative authority (zbo) related to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment, active since 1 January 2002 under the SUWI Act. The government register lists its statutory tasks, including administering the unemployment, sickness and disability insurance schemes and the Wajong, and registering jobseekers and employers' vacancies. Its English pages cover the unemployment benefit (WW), the sickness benefit, the WIA and Wajong disability benefits, and the return-to-work process for people who are ill for a long time. They also explain how someone receiving WW can, under conditions, keep it for a limited period while looking for work in another EU or EEA country or Switzerland. For employers, UWV explains dismissal procedures and issues the work permit (TWV) that employers need in stated cases to hire someone from outside the EU, the EEA or Switzerland. The combined work and residence permit (GVVA) is applied for at the IND, which asks UWV for advice on the labour-market aspects. UWV says it is the coordinating office for EURES in the Netherlands, and its English pages describe werk.nl as a job platform set up by UWV and the local council, where people receiving unemployment benefit use the Werkmap.

UWV says it is the coordinating office for EURES, the European employment services network, in the Netherlands, helping people from other countries find work here and employers find people to recruit.
Good to know
- Benefits are paid only when UWV's conditions are met, and UWV assesses each claim.
- UWV does not grant residence permits. The single permit (GVVA) is decided by the IND, which asks UWV for labour-market advice.
- Work permits (TWV) are applied for by the employer, not the worker, and the application form is in Dutch.
- Contact options, most letters and most forms are in Dutch.
- Mijn UWV and the Werkmap need DigiD, or a European electronic ID for EU and EEA citizens.
