Organisation records are published from the Flux Forward organisation register and shown here exactly as that register holds them. About

Wadinko is a participation company: it invests its own capital directly in companies rather than running a fund for outside investors. It was created in 1992 out of the proceeds of a regional water company's shareholding, and its shares are now held by the province of Overijssel and twenty four municipalities in Overijssel, southwest Drenthe and the Noordoostpolder. Its stated task is to stimulate business activity in that working area and to keep the return on its investments inside the region. It backs established small and medium sized companies at moments of change: growth, a family succession, taking over another business, a management buy-in or buy-out, or a temporary downturn. It deliberately takes a minority stake so the owner keeps control, and it states that it works without exit terms agreed in advance. Alongside capital it offers advice from investment managers who have run companies themselves, plus introductions within the group of companies it holds. It also runs a development service for smaller companies covering strategy, finance, process improvement, people and organisation, innovation, sustainability, digital technology and staff wellbeing.

Good to know

  • Its working area is Overijssel, southwest Drenthe and the Noordoostpolder. A company outside it is not eligible.
  • It backs established companies at moments of change rather than startups or early stage ventures.
  • It takes a minority stake by design, so it does not offer control-changing capital, and it publishes in Dutch.
