Whatever part of the municipality of Groningen you live in, your local WIJ team is the free, no appointment starting point for money, work, housing, health or parenting problems, and it is the team that issues social support and youth act indications.
About
WIJ Groningen is the neighbourhood social support service for residents of the municipality of Groningen. It works through thirteen local teams, in Beijum, Corpus den Hoorn, De Wijert, Haren, Hoogkerk, Korrewegwijk, Lewenborg, Oosterparkwijk, Rivierenbuurt, Schilderswijk and the centre, Selwerd, Ten Boer and Vinkhuizen. Each team has its own address, telephone number and email address, and takes people without an appointment. Support is free. The teams are staffed by paid professionals and volunteers with backgrounds in youth work, care for older people, community work, social work and family support, and the help is grouped into eight themes: money and work, safety, housing, health, meeting people and taking part, family and parenting, help for young people, and care and support. One formal task is issuing the indications residents need under the Dutch social support act and the youth act, and steering a case through. Community, outreach and youth workers also work directly in the neighbourhoods, backing residents' own initiatives and local activities.
